I used to be addicted to Most Haunted when Derek Acorah was on it, as he was so entertaining and sometimes scary! I am no longer a fan of the TV Series after he was forced out for apparently being a fraud. You telling me the rest of the team aren’t?…Don’t make me laugh…

Anyway, getting back to your question! My favourite ones were local places that I have visited myself such as Staircase House or Tatton Park etc..

There are rivers, streams and lakes that are good for fishing all over Snowdonia.
And the sea of course, which is free of license or permit requirements.
One of my favourite places is Bettws-y-Coed. The woodlands are great and there are good walks along the river all the way along the Conwy Valley past the Swallow Falls and onto the north coast at Conwy….a long walk.

Some areas don’t allow worm baits for trout or salmon.
Spinners and lures can be good for lake trout, and trotting works well on the faster rivers using flavoured dough balls for bait (flour and water dough with a bit of sardine or bovril or whatever mixed in), or with large maggots, or a combo of both.

South Wales, especially near Swansea at the Gower coast. Beautiful beaches and cliffs, rock formations, a ruin, a path along the golf course on the cliff top, not too touristy and a beautiful coastline.

When traveling for business recently I was given the opportunity to stay at the Ballantyne Golf Resort just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. It took a short twenty-minute drive to get from the airport to the front desk, yet it seemed we had travelled light years away from the hustle of a major transportation center. Upon arriving at the Ballantyne I was greeted by name and personally escorted to my suite. I had actually arrived about an hour early and had expected to wait in the resort bar, but was pleasantly surprised to find my accommodations available.

My suite came equipped with a Bose MP3 player and radio, as well as a 37″ HDTV and DCD player. Having stayed at many hotels I grow weary of being “nickel and dimed” with extra expenses to rent a DVD player or VCR. It was a great bonus for this to be included in the price. My room also included two Ballantyne robes, a safe that will hold a laptop and standard desk working area.

The view overlooked the golf course. I am told that several suites include a private balcony overlooking the course or other resort amenities.

Recently the Ballantyne opened their outdoor pool area which includes dining and drink services as well as plenty of room to lounge comfortably. I worked at the pool for several days during my stay, and while I sometimes had a small problem connecting to the wireless internet, the atmosphere was perfect for causal tasks such as replying to emails. The outdoor pool also is home to a casual mixer event each Thursday evening during the summer.

Several guests I met during my stay had traveled to the Ballantyne simply to play golf on the 18-hole resort course. According to them, and hotel staff, the course is the Charlotte area’s best place to play.

And while locals may be a bit biased, I did notice that Golf Digest magazine gave the course 4.5 out of five stars and Conde Nast Traveler lists it as one of the top 100 golf courses in the world. In the summer of 2009 the course closed for two months to install higher quality greens for improved and consistent play year-round.

Overall my stay at the Ballantyne Resort & Hotel was an enjoyable experience. The on-site dining options were adequate, and major entertainment venues are a short drive away. Since my wife was unable to join me on this trip, I plan on making another venture to the Ballantyne for relaxation. I’m sure the golf course, spa and other amenities are even nicer if you don’t have to be thinking about work part of the time.
